8GB of storage; Very large display, multi-touch screen, the Apple phone, named iPhone, is a bit of everything: Partly PDA phone, partly an Internet tablet; Partly a personal computer. The iPhone...:
Has a glossy glass surface fully occupied by the display.
No keypad and hardly a button: Everything is controlled by touch screen without a stylus, just your fingers.
It even detects and ignores unintended touches
It finds out when you flip it horizontally and adapts the display accordingly
It has WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0
Push-email, either IMAP or POP3
A special version of Google Maps
And of course, iTunes
Apple says they filed for more than 200 patents related to the iPhone. Other cell phone manufacturers must be scratching their head on how to beat that! Cingular will start offering the iPhone in June. It will sell in two versions: 4GB for $500 and 8GB for $600.
Fasten your seat belts. I believe it will be a hit. And Wall Street thinks so too. According to TheStreet.com, Apple shares surged 7% immediately following the announcement and are still fying high. Apple believes so much in its new phone (and other devices, of course) that they just announced they will be changing their name from Apple Computer to just Apple Inc, which tells a lot on the direction they are taking.
