Dopod C800 is now 30% slimmer with new and improved features all round.Essentially,it maintains the slide out keyboard which made the 838Pro a hit in the first place but opted to do away with 3.5G connectivity in favour of a trimmer waistline.
You get a 2.8" LCD display running on 240 x 320 QVGA resolution housed in dimensions measuring 109mm ( H ) x 59mm (W ) x 17mm (D).The metallic buttons on the front are big, shiny and comfortable to press. The back sports a2.0 megapixel camera and the outlet for the phone's speaker. The camera lens is not covered hence leaving it susceptible to dust and scratches.upon sliding the keyboard down, the interface automatically switches to landscape mode.Every key, including numeric and symbols are illuminated allowing you to conveniently type during the night, when your wife's asleep. It even has miniature LEDs for Caps lock and Function buttons, much similar to standard desk keyboard. The keyboard's sliding mechanism is smooth but not to the point of being flimsy. The grey metal casing also serve to complement further the overall toughness of this cookie.
Most connectivity options such as Quad band GSM,GPRS , Edge and Bluetooth are available except 3G as mentioned before.Nonetheless, this is compensated with a built in Wi Fi adapter. The phone's camera takes good pictures and has a wide range of functions such as ' white balance ' exposure control and 7 different modes of shooting. Most media files played on the C800 without any hitches, partly credit to Windows Media Player software inside.
The TI OMAP 850 processor is not the fastest I have seen but is still sufficient to smoothly run applications on the device.Navigation lag is minimal compared to other PDAs,but it did slow down when memory resources were low,as typical of most Windows Mobile phones.Battery life lasted longer than I estimated;on typical usage of making or receiving calls,SMS,playing media files and surfing the internet with Wi Fi,the device lasted us 3 whole days before running out of juice
