Sport telecasts could look a lot more realistic to TV viewers in future, thanks to a mini camera being developed by Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits. It can transmit the view of a Formula One racing driver or ski jumper, all in HDTV quality.

With a size of just 4 x 4 x 8 centimeters, the camera is small enough to fit in cockpit of an F1 race car or on a helmet.According to Stephan Gick, a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute (IIS), their success was due to factors; the dissipation of the electronics and thus the heat generated was kept very low for the tiny casing and all the components are highly integrated. All camera settings can be controlled through the Web,because the sportsperson can't be the cameraman as well.
